English    Vaulting    Squad

Lydia - 14
I am 14 and have been vaulting for 3 years! In year 5 a friend asked me whether I wanted to go vaulting with her, I was completely confused by this as I had never heard of it, but went along all the same and loved it!!! I have been to 4 international competitions so far and want to go to many, many more. Since I started, I have taken up other hobbies to help my vaulting, I now do dance on a Monday, karate on a Tuesday and I help train novice vaulters at Woodland Kites on a Wednesday. Vaulting usually keeps busy on the weekend as well!!! I love doing team the most but I often do individual in competition. In the future I hope to do well in my individual and in the team so that I can represent GB!!!

Sarah - 19
I have been vaulting since 1998 when I tried it out at Shieldbank Vaulting Club in Scotland and loved it. After one year I was asked to join the Scottish Equestrian Vaulting Team but then in 2001 my family moved to England. There I started vaulting with the newly formed English Vaulting Squad and also joined Windrush Vaulting Group for some extra practice. Unfortunately Windrush broke up in summer 2004 so now I only vault with EVS.
I've been in the EVS team at every competition since 2001 except one (because of exams) and I've also been competing individually since 2004. My first international competition was at Saumur in 2002 and I now compete abroad regularly.

In October 2006 I dislocated my elbow but with the help of my teammates I was soon back on the horse and making a good recovery, ready for 2007. In 2008 I was selected to represent Great Britain in the senior individual class at the World Champinships in the Czech Republic. Apart from vaulting other sports I enjoy are swimming, going to the gym and trampolining. I'm currently reading chemistry at Warwick University, which is luckily only 30 minutes away from training!

Megan - 10
I am 10 years old and have been vaulting for about 2 years. I train every weekend with EVS and the Warwick Group and also wriggle into other sessions during the week with anyone who will put up with me ! I've done lots of demos this year and travelled to Saumur , Krumke and Aachen with the team.
I'm completely horse mad and have a lovely pony called Dennis.

Paige - 12
I live in Ashe which is in Hampshire. I have been vaulting since I was around 5 but only did really basic stuff then! I started vaulting at Overton, then went to a camp in 2006. There I was asked to join the EVS. I like to take part in lots of sports activities and competitions with my school and local areas. When I am older I want to be an equestrian vet and a vaulter. I still vault with Overton every Wednesday but every Sunday I train with the EVS.
Earlier this year I went to Germany and France with the team, recently we went to the English Championships where I came third becoming Junior English Champion. I am looking forward to going to lots more demos and competitions with the team!

I started vaulting with Wittering Vaulting Group at the age of 7 and in 2003 I started training with EVS. In 2005, I joined the advanced team going to my first international in Stadl Paura (Austria) that year. I have been in the team ever since, first as a flyer and now as a prop. In 2006, I was Junior British Champion (under 14s) and started competing internationally as a Senior individual the following year. This year the FEI introduced a new international junior category for 14 - 18 year olds. I was selected to represent Team GB at the European Junior Championships in Brno (Czech Republic) as an individual in the new category and acheived 13th place. I enjoy vaulting because it's so different to anything I've ever done before and the team atmosphere is amazing. As a team we are aiming for the World Equestrian Games (WEG) in 2010 which will be held in Kentucky (USA). I also aim to one day be individual British Champion!

Sara – 15
I started vaulting when I was 6 for Venus Vaulters but then I got asked to join the English Vaulting Squad (E.V.S) when I was 8, and I really enjoyed it so I carried on! Altogether I have been to 6 international competitions as part of a team and I hope that I will be in the team for 2010 as we are aiming to go to Kentucky. I also hope to go as an Individual to Saumur which is in the Easter holidays next year. I have competed in many National competitions and in 2007 I was the Junior English Champion. I vault every Sunday and I help out on Saturdays with the Warwick team who are currently working at pre-novice level. I enjoy Vaulting so much because it is different and really fun. I hope to carry on in the future and I am looking forward to the coming years.

I started vaulting through Overton Vaulting Club and when my coach left I trained just with EVS. I've been vaulting with EVS for a couple of years now and loving it all. I've been doing my Individual recently and we're hoping to start a Junior team. I look forward to more competitions and maybe vault internationally one day. Some other sports I do are aerobics, ballroom dancing and I'm hoping to start rugby.

Emma - 22
I started vaulting in 2001 after I was introduced by a friend in my school gymnastics team. I then spent the next 3 years in the EVS team, during which we travelled to Italy and France.
Unfortunately in 2004 I moved to boarding school and I was unable to train regularly, so I left the team and started competing as an individual. Once I had finished my A levels I went to Birmingham University to read Biochemistry.
After a break from vaulting for just over a year I came back in 2006. I joined the EVS team again in 2007, and we have travelled to CVI**s in Saumur, Krumke and Aachen. I love being in the team with these fantastic girls, and I am excited to see us develop as a squad over the coming years.
In 2008 I graduated with a 2:1, and now I am fitting my vaulting training around a full-time job. When I’m not working or vaulting, I enjoy going to the gym and travelling, although my time doesn’t allow for jetting off to exotic places at the moment!
