EVS had an early start on the day of the Selection Trial for the Junior European Championships. It was a scorching day, despite taking place in Scotland, but luckily the compulsory round was over before the heat really kicked in. The team finished first after compulsories on 6.179 and Ellie Cundy, our junior individual up for selection for the Championships, also finished first with a mark of 6.115.
As the day continued it got hotter and hotter, so the warm up for freestyle mainly involved gentle stretches in a shady area and fanning ourselves. The team were pleased with the performance of the freestyle as we didn’t have a full contingency of vaulters due to injuries and were just using the competition as a practice run for later in the year. Overall we finished first with a score of 6.790.
Ellie did a brilliant job of her freestyle, finishing first in the Junior Individual class on a score of 6.581. This means she is now selected to compete at the Junior Championships in Austria in August, representing her country for the first time at the young age of only just 14.
Go Fast and Julie did extremely well coping with the boiling weather, of which neither are a fan, and the weekend was a success even though we didn’t get a tan!
